Hello – came across this article when looking for a review of Tell My Horse.
Just wanted to suggest some other Black travel writers – I have read a handful of these this year:
I began with Johnny Pitts’ Afropean, and his travels in Marseille led me to Claude McKay’s A Long Way From Home in which he travels between New York, Southern France, Moscow and Morocco.
Pitts also led me to Caryl Phillips – his travelogue work is called The European Tribe.
Langston Hughes has two autobiographical travelogues where he literally travels around the world as a commisioned writer – I’ve read the second one “I Wonder as I Wander”, and his first is called “The Big Sea”.
